Hypophyseal Portal Veins are different from Hypophyseal Veins
- Hypophyseal Portal Veins aka Hyophyseal Portal System connects the hypotahlamus to the anterior pituitary, if you look at link number 4 you will see the other names...notice the world "portal" is always associated with the hypothalamus to the anterior pituitary.
- Now look at the Hypohyseal Veins, notice the absence of the word "portal" (read the first point to explain), these are known as the inferior hypohysial artery as well (compared to the superior hypohysial artery which is on the anterior pituitary gland...read following key terms below
The inferior hypophysial artery is an artery supplying the neurohypophysis of the pituitary gland. It is a branch of the cavernous carotid artery (internal carotid artery).
The hypophyseal portal system is the system of blood vessels that link the hypothalamus and the anterior pituitary in the brain.
