Transitional Epithelium

Type: Epithelium

Looks like: The bottom (basal cells) look like columnar cells bunched up together, while the top (surface cells) look like cuboidal (cube like) or sqamous(irregular fish scale shaped) like cells. The image combination all depends on the degree of the organ that is stretching.

Functions: allows the movement of urine by stretching the urinary organ.

location: urinary tract: ureters, bladder and urethra lining.
